Celebrating the life of

Jane Harty Abbott

December 14, 1930 - May 06, 2020

Jane Harty Abbott

Jane Harty Abbott, 89, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in her home due to natural causes. A Savannah native, she was born December 14, 1930 to Anthony Harty and Jane Maude Sloan.

She attended the Pape School for Girls and graduated in 1949.  She attended Mary Washington College and transferred to Georgia State College in Milledgeville.  She met Laurie K. Abbott, a tennis partner of her brother, Tony Harty, while in high school.  They started dating later and married February 11, 1952.  Of this marriage, five children were born.

Mother lived a busy life, running our household, shuttling us and our friends to school, sporting practice and events, ballet, horseback riding, and swimming and sailing at country clubs…and then there were summers on Tybee and in western North Carolina.  She also maintained a full social schedule with her husband.

She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie, all her siblings: Joan, Tony, Billy, and Hill, and her grandson, David Abbott Scherz.

She is survived by her children, Laurie K. Abbott, Jr. (Mary), Anthony H. Abbott (Laura), Jane Abbott Taylor (Dennis), John R. Abbott, and Ann Elizabeth Abbott Devane (Michael); 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.  She was a devout Catholic, which she instilled in her children.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

There was a private graveside ceremony at Catholic Cemetery with Father John Lyons presiding.  A funeral mass and reception will be announced at a later date.
