Celebrating the life of

Jean Humphrey McCorkle

February 26, 1933 - May 02, 2020

Jean Humphrey McCorkle

Jean Humphrey McCorkle, 87 of Savannah, GA left to meet her Savior on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center with her family at her side.

Jean was born in Savannah, GA to the late John Elias Humphrey and Harriette Humphrey.  She married Jack McCorkle in 1949 and they celebrated almost 60 years together.  Jack and Jean were faithful members of Bible Baptist Church.  Jean was a stay at home mom who raised seven children and groomed animals for almost 50 years.  She and her husband Jack also took in about 25 foster children over the years.

After the children were grown, Jack and Jean opened the Abide A While Pet Motel, where they groomed and boarded many animals.  They both enjoyed golfing and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In their retirement years, Jean and Jack became members of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church where their son, Dr. David Laughner is the pastor.  Jean loved her church family and loved sharing Christ with others.  In 2012, Jean had to go into the nursing home and could no longer attend church.  She then spent her time concerned with the physical and spiritual well being of her fellow residents, especially Laura Rahn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. McCorkle, Sr., brother, John David Humphrey, sister, Mary Sue Usry and her daughter- in- law, Linda Lightsey McCorkle.

Surviving are sons, Jack Jr., Roy (Nancy), David (Ginger), Mike, Mickey and her daughter Nancy Redmond; 15 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.  The family would like to say a special thank you to her three best friends and prayer partners, Kathy Kohler, Lois Pifer and Joan Kornblatt.  We would also like to say a special thank you to Hospice for their loving care throughout this time of need.

Due to the restrictions of COVID 19, the family will have a private graveside service.  After the restrictions have been lifted, we will have a memorial service to be decided.

In Lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to: Chapel By The Sea Baptist Church, Lottie Moon Missions, P.O. Box 235, Tybee Island, GA  31328

This Sweet lady, ms Jean will be missed ! But the heavens rejoiced at her entrance. “Welcome home” , to a godly woman who loved and lived for her Savior Jesus Christ. What a treasure of a friend she was. She loved her family, talked of all of you fondly, and prayed for you all. Her desire was that all of you, and all who were around her would know Jesus and call Him your savior. This beautiful lady, a legacy. I will miss you Ms Jean !!! I love you, Kathy

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. She was an inspiration to many and I have such fond memories of her and your family at Bible Baptist. (We were all in youth together.) She leaves a legacy of serving her Lord, her family and friends. Rejoicing that she is healed and reunited with her husband. And someday we’ll all be reunited! Praying for God’s presence and comfort for you during this time of loss and grieving.

A candle has been lit!

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I remember her sweet smile and friendliness. Most of all I remember how welcome she made me feel when I began attending church at Chapel by the Sea. She was a wonderful Christian lady. Martha Fulton
