Celebrating the life of

Leona Tyre Sapp

May 25, 1926 - February 11, 2020

Leona Tyre Sapp

Mrs. Sapp was born Emily Leona to the late Asa C. and Anna Tyre on May 25,1926, in Jesup, GA.

She’s the baby sister to three brothers who also preceded her: Marvin (Lillie Mae) Tyre, Randolph (Kitty) Tyre and Otto (Dinky) Tyre. They all loved her, protected her, and spoiled her rotten!

She met and married the late Irvin Sapp, Sr., while serving as a nurse at The Leapheart Hospital in Jesup, GA. Together, they produced five children to share their life, love, and pursuit of happiness.

She devoted all her love and time as a homemaker and mother of five surviving children, Irvin (Becky) Sapp, Jr., Cassandra (Dave) Bonner, Stephen (Phyllis) Sapp, Sr., Larry (Kimberly) Sapp, and Jody (Deirdre) Sapp.

Her grandchildren include, Lisa Marie, James Tyler, Stephen, Jr., Cassandra Pearl, Haliegh Noelle, Gabrielle, Rachel, Parker, Randolf Ean, Annabell, and Chance. Eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Savannah where she taught children’s Sunday School classes and then the nursery. She loved the Wednesday night church suppers, because she didn’t have to cook that night, and it gave her yet another opportunity to converse with everyone. She tried her best to make us behave during church services and sometimes she succeeded!

She was a friend and neighbor to many, but to our family she will always be Mom, Mother-In-Law, Sister-In-Law, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Aunt Leona.

We give thanks to God for sharing her with us for these 93+ years and allowing us to experience her love and laughter which she dispensed freely and with great enthusiasm.

The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2020 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A visitation will be held at Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home in Jesup at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., at Jesup City Cemetery.

Sandy my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Our prayers are with the family. No more suffering, no more worry, no more pain. Glory! Mrs. Sapp is home!

A candle has been lit!

My prayers are with you all, and for her. She was one of the worlds most loving people, she was welcoming to everyone she met. Leona was born to be a mom, she loved to mother everyone!
