Joel Donald Lynch
September 07, 1935 - January 09, 2020
Joel Donald Lynch, 84, died peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020. Joel was born in LaGrange, GA on September 7, 1935 to Walter and Nettie Lou Lynch. He graduated from Oglethorpe University, did graduate work at Emory University, and received a law degree from Tulane University. He married the former Dottie Eisenberg of Savannah in February 1959.
Joel pursued a career in financial services, beginning his lifetime work at Loeb Rhoades in New York City. He moved to Savannah in the early 1960s where he joined what would become The Robinson-Humphrey Company. He was a partner in the firm and spent the majority of his working career as a producing manager of the Robinson-Humphrey Savannah/Hilton Head operations. Joel retired from Smith Barney, a division of Citigroup, which had purchased R-H in the 1990s.
Among his civic endeavors, Joel was Chairman of the Board of the Savannah Port Authority, Chairman of the Board and early proponent of developing Senior Citizens, Inc., Chairman of the Board and co-founder of WSVH – public radio in Savannah, Board member of Chatham County Hospital Authority, and Trustee of the Mickve Israel Memorial Endowment Fund.
Joel is survived by his son Bill, daughter-in-law Lane, two grandsons Jim and Alex, and two sisters Joyce and Judy. He was predeceased by his wife Dottie, his daughter Ellen, son Jim, and two sisters, Jan and Peg.
The family would like to thank Habersham House, the ER staff at Memorial, and Hospice Savannah for their care.
Visitation will be at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel, on Thursday, January 16 from 5-7 pm. Graveside services at Bonaventure Cemetery on Friday, January 17 at 11 am, Reverend Billy Hester officiating.
