Celebrating the life of

Stephen C. Russell

Passed away on January 10, 2020

Stephen C. Russell

Stephen Christopher Russell, age 50, of Savannah, Georgia died Friday, January 10, 2020 in the care of Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was surrounded by his family and friends.

Steve was born in Columbus, Georgia on December 7, 1969 to Suzanne Russell. He grew up in Atlanta and then moved to Savannah in 1990 where he began working at Austin’s Steakhouse on Wilmington Island. In 1994 Steve started working for St. Joseph’s Candler Health System in the printing department and then moved into the Information Services Department, where he continued to work for the past 20 years.

Steve was devoted to his family. He and his wife, Helena, met in 1994 at his first job in Savannah at Austin’s Steakhouse. They were married on May 24, 1997 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island. Their twenty-eight year relationship created an exceptional bond of love and companionship. Not only were they husband and wife, they were best friends and soul mates. Steve’s children, Madeline Elise (17) and Noah Austin (12), meant the world to him. They shared a unique and special bond that included a love of sports, Star Wars, and music.

Steve loved rock and heavy metal music. He both played and collected guitars. Steve’s collection included 20 plus guitars. He recently began building guitars and completed one over the Christmas holidays. Steve was often seen in his “Man Cave” watching ESPN and strumming rock tunes on his guitars. He also enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and especially, being at home with his family.

Those who were blessed to call him friend will truly miss his wonderful laughter and warm greetings of, “Hey, dude!” or “What’s uuuup?” The world is a far better place because of the charm, wit, and talent that Steve Russell possessed.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Helena, and his two beautiful children, Maddie and Noah. He is also survived by his mother Suzanne, his mother-in-law and father in law, Fran and Mike Phillips, brother-in-law, Michael (Tonya), sister-in-law, Tessa (Jeff), nephews, Hayden, Clayton, and Levi, his uncle and aunt, David and Harriet Russell, and cousins, Hollie Sullivan and David Russell, Jr.

The visitation service will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410 on Wednesday, January 15 from 5-7pm with the Rosary service beginning at 5:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410 on Thursday, January 16 at 10:00am. There will be a private burial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stephen Russell Memorial Fund at First Chatham Bank on Wilmington Island.

Sleep, it is best..... Sweet as the tender fragrance that survives. When martyred flowers breathe out their little lives, Sweet as a song that once console our pain, But shall never be sung again, Is thy remembrance. Now the hour of rest, hath come to thee. Sleep, loved one: it is best. — Penned by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.................. Sir Knight Frank
