Richard S. Buckingham

Savannah, Georgia - Richard Sherwood Buckingham, died peacefully at Hospice House of Savannah, Georgia on April 11, 2006.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Clyde and Melicent Buckingham. He grew up in Southport, Connecticut and graduated from the Berkshire School, ’50 and Middlebury College, ’58. He served as a U.S. Naval Aviator in the Far East from ’53-’57. Dick had a successful and fulfilling 34 year career in sales and sales management with Continental Can Company and Vice President of Cadbury Schweppes. He and his family lived in St. Louis, Missouri and Wilton, Connecticut before retiring to Savannah, Georgia in 1995. Dick loved golf, genealogy, water coloring, travel and woodworking. He was a member of The Golden K of Skidaway and the Landings Club. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was loved by all who knew him and made everyone he knew feel at ease. His wonderful sense of humor and kindness to all made him an unforgettable gentleman.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Marty, his daughter, Linda Thomson of Wilton, CT and her husband, Peter. His son, Steve Buckingham of Oconomowoc, WI and his wife, Karin. A sister, Susan McGarvey and four grandchildren, Scott, Meredith, Haley and Doug. He was predeceased by his brother John.

Dick was a member of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church where services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.
