Buron A. Watson Jr.
Buron A. Watson Jr., 79, entered into eternal resting April 19, 2006 at Candler Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He joined his beloved wife of fifty-seven years Mildred Lucina Farr Watson who preceded him in death on April 6, 2006. He was affectionately known by his many friends and family as B.A., Bubber, or Tom.
Mr. Watson was a native of Wadley, Georgia and had lived the majority of his life in Savannah. He attended classes at Armstrong College and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radioman Third Class aboard the USS Antrim AK159. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with four commendation awards, the Victory Ribbon, the American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon 1 Star, and the Philippine Liberation 1 Star. He later retired from the Central of Georgia and Norfolk Southern Railroads with forty-seven years of service. Mr. Watson was an elder at First Presbyterian Church where he had been a member since 1948 and was extremely active in the worship and music & property committees. He spent many years devoted to coaching the youth of Savannah in baseball and football. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Buron A. Watson Sr. and his brother, Dr. George E. Watson.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Buron A. “Ronnie” Watson III Cynthia of McDonough, GA, Ralph E. Watson Karen of Chesterfield, SC, and David Louis Watson Ponda of Savannah; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” Watson Stevens of Savannah, Mildred Virginia Watson Hill John McDermott of Savannah and Althea Watson Barre CMSgt. John Barre of Pooler; two sisters, June Watson Williams of Mobile, AL and Mary “Tillie” Watson Murphy of Alabaster, AL twelve grandchildren, Angel Warnock, Amy Blehm, April Watson, Candice Watson, Derek Watson, Lucina Barre, Julianne Watson, Allison Watson, John Barre Jr., Buron Watson IV, Jessie Barre, and David Watson Jr.; two great grandchildren Reannon and Peyton Warnock; and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Stephen C. Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
