Sara Hodges Burns
Sara Hodges Burns, 90, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006 at her daughter’s residence under the care of Hospice Savannah Inc.
Mrs. Burns was born July 2, 1915 to the late Josh H. and Lillie Garner Hodges in Ludowici, Georgia. She graduated with honors from Ludowici High School and later graduated from Abraham Baldwin College and Georgia College for Women. Mrs. Burns taught Home Economics for many years in Savannah area schools including St. Vincent’s Academy, Jenkins Myers and Savannah VO Tech. She was preceded in death by her husband John J. Burns and five sisters, Ellen J. Brundage, Mary Hodges, Fern H. Milligan, Ruth H. Baker and Martha H. Pettis.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Mary Ann Burns; a daughter Sally Burns; grandchildren, Jennifer Burns, John J. Burns III, and Kevin Burns; great grandchildren, Lillie and Griffin Burns all of Savannah; a sister, Mary Sue Johnson of Griffin, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 14, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church.
Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2006 at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in Hinesville, GA.
Remembrances may be sent to Hospice Savannah Inc., St. Mary’s Home, or St. Vincent’s Academy.
