Dr. Peter M. Sabbatini

Dr. Peter M. Sabbatini, 81, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Hospice Savannah, Inc.

Savannah- He was born in Italy on October 15, 1924 and came to the United States in 1963. Dr. Sabbatini was a physician in the Red Cross in Italy and had his own practice in Rome until 1963 when he was hired to work as a senior physician in Palmer Massachusetts, Monson State Hospital. In the early 1970’s, Dr. Sabbatini was director of medical and surgical services at Warm Springs State Hospital in Montana. In the late 1970’s he became Clinical Physician at Rochester Psychiatric Center of Rochester, New York. In the early 1980’s Dr. Sabbatini worked at Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia and was a consultant at the Mental Health Center in Albany, Georgia. He also had a small practice in Thomasville specializing in acupuncture. In 1986 he came to Savannah and was a staff Physician at Georgia Regional Hospital while continuing as a consultant at Mental Health Center in Albany, Pembroke and Darien.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Calia Sabbatini of Savannah; two daughters, Lina Shemet and her husband Daniel of Snohomish, Washington and Toni Sabbatini-Mountford and husband John of Nashville, Tennessee.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Hospice Savannah Inc. P.O. Box 13190 Savannah, GA 31416.
