Donald J. Highsmith, age 75, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Claxton native was raised in Metter and has lived in Savannah for most of his life. After entering the United States Army during the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Air Force for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1990. He worked with Moore Homes for a number of years in Georgetown operating their water treatment plant and later retired from the City of Savannah, after six years of service. He was a member of Central Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Highsmith; a son, Monty Highsmith, a granddaughter, Celine Highsmith, and his mother, Lillian R. Highsmith, all of Savannah; a sister, Jean Ulmer, of Savannah; two brothers, Floyd Highsmith of Savannah and Jerome Highsmith of Douglas; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 pm on Tuesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with Rev. Fred Brown officiating.
