SAMUEL DOYLE ALLEN
Savannah-Samuel Doyle Allen, 85, died Monday, July 10, 2006 at Memorial Health University Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boydell, Arkansas on January 11, 1921 and has lived in Savannah since 1936. He is a 1939 graduate of Savannah High School and in 1943 he graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S.M.E. He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1946. He has been very active in the community including serving as an active member of the Board of Directors for over twenty years with Liberty Bank, known now as Suntrust; a member of Bull Street Baptist Church for over 70 years where he served as deacon and was chairman of the Board of Deacons; member of the Board of Trustees of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he served as chairman; served as a Georgia State Representative for District 92; past president of Y.M.C.A. of Savannah and a member of the Rotary Club of Savannah. He was the past president and owner of S.A. Allen, Inc.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Perfect Allen of Savannah; children, Charles Andrew Allen and his wife Suzie of Beaufort, SC, Louise Allen Anderson and her husband Jim of Tybee Island, Sam D. Allen, Jr. and his wife Robin of Wilmington, NC and Steven Howard Allen and his wife Pam of Savannah; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Bull Street Baptist Church with Reverend Earnie Pirkle officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
Burial: Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bull Street Baptist Church, 17 East Anderson Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or a charity of choice.
