Celebrating the life of
Dr. Cecil L. Bendush
Passed away on September 15, 2018
Dr. Cecil Leon Bendush passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home under the compassionate care of Hospice Savannah and surrounded by his family. Dr. Bendush was born on November 1, 1933 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Alta and Leon Bendush. He graduated in 1955 from Ferris State University with a pharmacy degree and from Wayne State University’s School of Medicine in 1960 with a specialty in Pediatrics. Dr. Bendush had a successful career in the field of drug research and development spanning 40+ years. He retired prior to moving to Savannah, GA where he and his wife Jan (married for 29 years) resided in The Landings. Dr. Bendush fulfilled his dream of starting a clinic for the indigent when he founded the Community Healthcare Center in 2001 where he served as Chairman of the Board for many years. Cecil was an avid tennis player and was an active member of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church for 20+ years.
Dr. Bendush is survived by his wife Janet Bendush, his 5 children: Brad Bendush (Cindy), Cindy Bendush, Kathy Fries (Joe), Dave Bendush and Joanne Hester (Jim) and his step son, Karl Pavloff (Nancy); 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Cecil will be remembered as a kind, gentle, compassionate person who was a supportive, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made, in his name, to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A service has been scheduled for September 29th, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home Cincinnati, OH with burial to immediately follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Arrangements will follow at a later date for a small informal service at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Bendush family for the loss of your dear loved one. May the love of family and friends as well as the words at “Psalm 147:3” and “2 Corinthians 1:3” continue to help you get through these most difficult times.

Cecil will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul. He maintained an immaculate outdoor yard and garden and enjoyed tennis almost daily after retiring to Savannah. He handled his diagnosis with grace and strength. As the disease progressed and he could no longer play tennis, he enjoyed watching the Savannah Tennis Open and "knew" he used to play! He will be remembered for always inviting his grown children to visit and stay in his home. He made significant contributions to the medical profession, including his work to open a health care clinic in Savannah to serve impoverished patients. In his final days he was surrounded by family and a caring home care team. He passed peacefully and my hope for him now is to play tennis every day, utilizing his amazing serve and volley game, and then return home to his sanctuary and enjoy endless Diet Root beer and ice cream. Love, Love, Love You. ~Kathy

I was lucky enough to have Cecil in my life for the last 27 years. He treated me like one of his own and I will miss him dearly. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren. God bless you Jan and may God grant you strength and peace. I love you dad. Rest In Peace... until you find that tennis game in the sky, then go squash ‘em.
- Jim Hester, Westfield, IN
I am happy to have known Cecil as father-in-law to my son Jim and grandfather to my grandchildren Reilly, Patrick and Madigan. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. My prayers and condolences are with the family.

We miss dad so much but know he is in a better place and is now again able to do those things in heaven that brought him so much joy here on Earth - playing tennis (which he has not been able to do for several years now), working in the yard and just being the kind, compassionate person he always was. He was a moral and ethical man who wasn’t afraid of ‘ruffling feathers’ to accomplish a passion or belief (hence establishment of the Community Healthcare Center - a vision which started taking place years prior to moving to Savannah). He taught how to love unconditionally; to never take anyone/anything for granted; and to believe in yourself - especially when others didn’t. He lead by example. May we strive to continue to be the adult children he has helped shape us to be and to raise grandchildren and great grandchildren with him as their role model. God Bless

My sincere condolences to the family for your loss. During these difficult times losing loved ones is affecting everyone, but there is hope found in God's word. The scripture at Acts chapter 24 verse 15 tells us that there is a hope for our loved ones, please read that scripture when you can.
