NEWELL TURNER PARR
Mrs. Newell Turner Parr, 79, died Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Azalealand Nursing Home. The native and lifelong resident of Savannah was a retired educator, having worked with the Chatham County School System and the Royce Reading Center. She attended Pape School and graduated from Savannah High School and Agnes Scott College. She earned her Master’s degree in English from Armstrong State College.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a former Docent with the Flannery O’Connor House and a member of the Froebel Circle. She was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Monday Afternoon Circle at the Church. She also served as a children’s Sunday school teacher and the church librarian. Her early years were spent at Independent Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John M. Parr.
Surviving are, four daughters and sons- in- law; Rev. Bonnie Parr Philipson and Rev. Jim Parr Philipson of Tigard, OR; Jackie Parr Verner and Timothy Verner of Mableton, GA; Newell Parr Bowman and Warren Bowman of Kansas City, MO; and Amy Parr Henneman and Ted Henneman of Savannah, GA; her son and daughter- in- law; Dr. Frank M. Parr and Beth Stalder Parr of Savannah, GA; a sister, Mary Turner Buchanan of Decatur, GA; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 8, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church with burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
