Joseph B. Kennedy

Joseph Bernard Kennedy, 84, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The native Savannahian attended Benedictine Military School and was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
During World War II he served as a crew chief in the 790th bomber squadron of the Eighth Air Force where he was awarded a Bronze Star and the ETO service medal with six clusters. After the war he joined the Georgia Air National Guard and later graduated from Fort Rucker flight training school as a helicopter pilot. He served the State of Georgia as an airplane and helicopter pilot with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer until his retirement in 1981.
A member of the Chatham Artillery for fifty-seven years, Joseph was also a past president. He was a Fourth Degree honoree of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5588, a member of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, and a past president and parade marshal of the Fenian Society in Savannah.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Elizabeth Tilton Kennedy and his son, Joseph Patrick Kennedy.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
