Celebrating the life of
Harrison Shay Lobel
May 07, 1996 - September 18, 2018
Harrison Shay Lobel, 22, died on September 18, 2018 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Michael Lobel (Jennifer McCaslin), he was born on May 7, 1996, in Atlanta and moved to Savannah with his family in 2004.
A 2015 graduate of The Savannah Country Day School, Harrison was a rising junior at The Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring in film production. Photography and filming were two of his passions: he belonged to the Film Club in high school and was hired as the photographer during those years for various organizations at Country Day and their alumni group, St. Vincent’s Academy, the Benedictine Cadets, Savannah Young Life, and for a number of freelance headshots and ads. His photography was also featured in two school magazines, The Buzz and Amanuensis, as well as in The Skinnie on The Landings. He was also active in the Asian Culture Club, the Outdoor Adventure Club, and the Savannah Young Life Program.
Having been diagnosed at an early age with Asperger’s Syndrome on the autism spectrum, Harrison chose to produce and direct a documentary on raising awareness on autism spectrum disorders, “Darkness and Solace: Raising Awareness for the Socially Impaired,” which he presented to a number of middle and upper school audiences in Savannah for his Country Day senior project. He was awarded a SCAD scholarship for that endeavor.
Two of Harrison’s high school summers were spent completing the Kanuga Trailblazers’ Leadership Program at an Episcopal camp in North Carolina. In other summers, he worked as a hygienist’s assistant at Dentistry for Children and Adolescents, Savannah Squeeze, the Friendship Coffee Company, and the Byrd Cookie Company. In the community, he worked with the Compassion Christian Church East Campus in providing food for the homeless and volunteered his time to photograph a number of events for the Community Bible Church (CBC) Neighbors group, in which church community the Lobels are active members.
Harrison is survived by his parents, Bryan and Jennifer Lobel, his sister Macy, his grandparents, Pamela McCaslin, Barbara Schecter Lobel, and Joel Charles Lobel, a number of devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many special friends.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 21, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Boulevard. A celebration of Harrison’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, at the Community Bible Church, 1206 E. 68th Street, conducted by Pastor Bill Fowler, with burial to follow later.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the budding memorial garden at CBC (1206 E. 68th Street, 31404) or to the Harrison Lobel Memorial Fund at the Savannah Country Day School (824 Stillwood Drive, 31419).
May the thoughts of knowing that friends and family share in your grief be of comfort to the Lobel family for your loss. May fond memories provide solace during these most difficult times. Please know that God is close to the broken-hearted. He will continue to help you endure “Psalm 147:3” and “John 5:28,29”

Harrison was such a fine young man with a bright future ahead in his choice of film and photography. He worked hard to accomplish so much in his short life. He is still blessing others with his organ gift of life. Much uknown good is yet to come to your family as you try to heal from his loss. My sincere condolences to the family an friends of Harrison. For Harrison to be so young he did a lot of impressive things an it is so sad to read this obituary. Very soon though death will be a thing in the past (1 Cor. 15:26), we will no longer have to worry about losing loved ones to death anymore. Please read that scripture along with Acts chapter 24 verse 15 an you will see how things will soon be better.
