DON FRAZER SHARPLEY

Metter- Don Frazer Sharpley, husband of Helen Thompson Sharpley, died September 7, 2006 after a short illness. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1928 to Dr. Hiram Frazer Sharpley, Jr. and Edna Hunsberger Sharpley.
The family moved to Savannah when Don was 6 months old. He attended public schools and graduated from Savannah High School in 1946. He entered the University of Georgia in 1951 graduated with a BS in Psychology and in August of 1952 earned his Bachelor of Business Administration. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Don entered the Army in 1953 and served until 1955 as a Statistical Mathematician at Fort Jackson and Fort Gordon working in the Division Comptrollers Office.
In 1956 he attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and returned to Savannah to work with Varnedoe Chisholm and Johnson Lane Space, investment banking firms, until his retirement in 1988, when he moved to Metter and enjoyed living on a farm.
He was active in many civic and church activities through the years and served as Junior and Senior Warden of St. Andrew’s church. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution, German Heritage Society and Cotillion Club and a past member of the Savannah Yacht Club and Oglethorpe Club. He was a lifetime Republican and Conservative.


He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Helen Thompson Sharpley, three daughters and their husbands, Schley Sharpley Shineman and Tad Franklin Shineman, Elizabeth Sharpley Dowlen and John Evans Dowlen, Jr., all of Atlanta and Liesi Sharpley Tanner and Edward Scott Tanner of Savannah.
Grandchildren, Frank Stewart Tanner and Hiram Sharpley Tanner of Savannah and Emma Kelly Dowlen and Margaret Loxley Dowlen of Atlanta. Two nephews, Thomas Loxley Sharpley, Jr., and Wallace Pierpont Sharpley and four nieces, Pamela Sharpley Angell, Patricia C. Sharpley, Karen Trosdal Groover and Lynah Trosdal Gangi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Loxley Sharpley and sister, Pamela Sharpley Trosdal.

Graveside Services will be Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery with The Reverend Richard Nelson officiating.
