George W. Cosper, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital at the age of 91, after a fall. He was a native of Detroit, Michigan. He had retired in 1980 to live at The Landings in Savannah and had recently moved to Savannah Square Retirement Center.
He graduated from the University of Michigan and was a lifelong member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Mr. Cosper retired from the U.S. Navy as a Captain after serving from 1939 from World War II through the Korean Conflict. He remained in the U.S. Navy Reserves until 1975. After his active duty service, he worked for General Services Administration in Washington, D.C.
He was twice widowed. He was married 49 years to the former Betty Ide of Detroit and eight years to Jean Milligan of Coshocton, Ohio.
Survivors include, one son, George GEE W. Cosper, III and daughter-in-law, Laura Ann Cosper, and one grandson, Michael G. Cosper, all of Annapolis, MD, sister-in-law, Jeanette Cosper, of Novi, MI, sister, Carol Holloway, of Farmington Hill, MI, two step-sons, George Milligan, of Findlay, Ohio, Mark Milligan, of Columbus, Ohio, a step-daughter, Missey Taylor, of Kansas City, MO, and their children. He is also survived by and will be sorely missed by his companion for the last 9 years, Laura T. Worrell.
Memorial Services will be Friday, January 26, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the local Salvation Army or Hospice Savannah.
