Susan Ritter Cohen
July 11, 1960 - January 26, 2007
Savannah- Susan Ritter Cohen, 46, of Savannah, Georgia, died on January 26, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Fayettville, North Carolina, she was raised in Darlington, South Carolina. Susan graduated from Presbyterian College with a BS degree in accounting. She was a licensed CPA in Georgia and South Carolina. After moving to Savannah with her husband in 1985, she began work with the accounting firm of Spillane, Rhodes Lebey & Seig, later King and Spalding. For the last 5 years, Susan was employed as a 5th grade teacher at Savannah Country Day School.
As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Susan served for several years as church treasurer and as an Elder. She taught Sunday School for many years and also taught in the church’s day school.
As an active member of the community, Susan held many offices in the Savannah Junior League, including treasurer and vice president of finance. She was a past co-chair of the Presbyterian College Alumni Board and served as past president of the PC Board of Visitors.
Susan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Kelly and Bess Stallings Ritter of Darlington, SC.
She is survived by her husband Daniel C. Cohen and their only child Kathleen Bess Cohen of Savannah. Her siblings include her eldest brother Kelly Ritter, Jr. and sister in law Teresa Ritter, of Durham, NC: sister Liza Mackey and brother in law Dr. Charles Mackey of Cheyenne, WY; brother Keith Ritter and sister in law Lori Ritter of Columbia, SC. Other relatives include her mother in law Kathleen Cohen of Darlington, SC; Dr. Alex Cohen and Dyan Cohen of Darlington, SC; Dr. Andrew Cohen and Dr. Peggy Cohen of Hawthorne, Fl; and Kathy Brand and Kemper Brand of Lugoff, SC. Susan Cohen is also survived by nine wonderful nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Washington Avenue on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 1:00 pm.
Burial will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery immediately following the service.
Remembrances to First Presbyterian Church organ fund or to the Savannah Country Day School.
