Ruth Brown Clary

-Savannah, GA - Ruth Brown Clary died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at The Marshes at Skidaway Island. Born in Raleigh, NC on August 13, 1922, she graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing and served in the United States Navy as a nurse during World War II. After the war she worked as a flight attendant with American Airlines.
She was married in June 1948 to the late Dr. W. Upton Clary, founder of the Neurological Institute of Savannah. They moved to Savannah in 1951 where she was a devoted mother and wife. She had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was instrumental in Trinity’s renovation during the 1960’s. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years during this time. She was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Clary is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn O’Neill Lofton and Dennis Lofton and Patricia C. Power and John Power, all of Savannah; four grandchildren, Jack O’Neill, Cathryn O’Neill, Carolyn Power and Leigh Power, all of Savannah; and a brother, Ronda Brown of Camden, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 5, 2007, at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Epworth By the Sea Methodist Center at St. Simon’s Island or Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, in memory of Ruth Clary.
