Barletta Acton Wrather
August 14, 1913 - April 25, 2007
Barletta Acton Wrather died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Azalealand Nursing Home . Mrs. Wrather was born in Eubank, Kentucky, August 14, 1913. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Thomas Jefferson Acton and Rebecca Estes Acton, her husband, Yandal Wrather, a son, James Thomas Wrather and a daughter, Barthela Wrather Pierce.
Mrs. Wrather attended Asbury College and graduated from Murray State College in Kentucky. She taught high school in Kirsey, KY and was a home demonstration agent in Calloway County Kentucky until her retirement in 1776.
In 1989, Mrs. Wrather moved to Savannah to be near her daughter and enjoyed a very active and fulfilling life. She was member of White Bluff United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a Sorority member of the Alpha Delta Kappa, Zeta Chapter.
She was a docent for the Historic Savannah Foundation, Davenport House for a number of years. Mrs. Wrather was honored as being one of the most outstanding home demonstration agents in America by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1974. For several years she listed in Who’s Who for American Women for her outstanding work in the field of home economics. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was active for many years in the 4-H club.
Surviving is her son-in-law. Thomas I. Pierce, niece, Carol Shouse Yoder, two nephews, Henry Acton Shouse and Dr. John Wesley Shouse, also surviving are great and great great nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins and friends who lovingly remember her outgoing caring for people, her wisdom and counsel, her positive attitude and Christian Faith.
Burial will be held in Kentucky at a later date.
