Nancy Niemeyer Mitchell
Savannah, GA- Nancy Niemeyer Mitchell, age 76, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at her home. The Kansas City, Missouri native had lived in Savannah for the past fourteen years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served as head of the Adult Literacy Program and served as a docent. She also served as a docent at the Telfair Arts Academy. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Following graduation she remained active with the Pi Beta Phi organization. While at the University of Missouri she was elected to Pi Beta Kappa Fraternity for scholastic excellence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Hedwig Niemeyer, and a brother, Robert D. Niemeyer.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph C. Mitchell, III of Savannah; her son and daughter-in-law, Van-Lear Black IV and Tami Black of Alpharetta, Georgia; her daughter, Katie Black of Atlanta; and two grandchildren, Jessie Black and Will Black, both of Alpharetta.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island. Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the Savannah-Chatham Humane Society, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
