Celebrating the life of
Betty Tootle Richards
November 01, 1927 - May 08, 2007
-Savannah-Betty Josephine Tootle Richards was born on the 1st of
November 1927 in Tattnall County, Georgia to Caple Lee Tootle and Roxie
Maria Kight.
She is the Youngest of 6 children. Betty was a Teacher in the Oak Grove
Baptist Church at a very early age. The chapel had been built on land
deeded to the church by her father. Betty loves the gospel of Jesus
Christ. As a young adult she came into contact with the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she recognized and accepted the
fullness of the gospel. She served a mission for the LDS church in the
Great Lakes Mission in the mid 1950's. Upon returning from her mission
she was married on the 11th of May 1955 to Wallie Griffith Richards, for
time and all eternity, in the Idaho Falls Temple. After their marriage
they lived in Idaho for a short time until they moved to Southern
California where they were blessed with their first child, Roxann Tootle
Richards. Betty soon became desirous to return to the low country of her
home in South Georgia. After returning to Savannah, Georgia Betty was
told she would not be able to have any more children; but, God hearing
her prayers and the desires of her heart blessed her with two more
children, Shawn Tootle Richards and David Tootle Richards. Betty loves
to teach and has served in numerous positions in the LDS church. She
served as a Seminary Teacher for 7 years, She served as a Gospel
Doctrine Teacher. She served as an Instructor for the Teacher
Development course. She taught several other classes and served in
several leadership callings. Betty loves music and was a member of the
church choir for as many years as she could get about. Today she is
singing once again, uninhibited by the constraints of a physical body
which is tired and ready to rest, in a choir with loved ones and
friends. She has been reunited with her husband, her father and mother.
She is with her grandmother, that she loves greatly and with her dear
brother Talmage and sisters Ruby and Estelle.

them. We look forward to the day that we will be reunited and see the
warm smiles of her and our father and once again feel their loving arms
around us. We'll "say an Ave' there for" you Mom. Betty Josephine Tootle
