Arthur Garfield “Opa” Coward

Arthur Garfield “Opa” Coward died May 15, 2007 at Candler Hospital.

Mr. Coward was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 11, 1942. He retired as an engineer from CSX Transportation after thirty-two years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Mr. Coward was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Francis S. Bartow Camp No.93, and was a lifelong member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Coward, Sr.

Survivors include his wife Cynthia S. Coward of Savannah; mother, Mary Garfield Coward of Savannah; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Bell of Savannah, Ruthie and David Sauer of Pooler and Rosie and Robert Hinteregger of Hilton Head Island, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Adriane Coward of Decatur, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Walter C. Coward, Jr. and Dolores of Savannah; and grandchildren, Scott, Bryan, Skye, Bradley, Kevin, Jett, Elizabeth and Grayson and his beloved “girls” Suzie and Ginger.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.

Interment will be private.
