YVONNE DENITTO JENKINS

Yvonne DeNitto Jenkins died June 12, 2007 at Hospice House of Savannah.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Germaine DeNitto, her brothers, Bernard and Paul DeNitto and her beloved husband of sixty years, Harold T. Jenkins.
Yvonne was born in Jamestown, New York in 1925.At the age of four, she and her family moved to Brooklet, Georgia. After graduating from high school, she moved to Savannah and worked for 30 years at Savannah Machine and Foundry as the Director of Personnel. Yvonne was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and, later, St. James Church. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Savannah Italian Club. She was very active in the American Society of Personnel Associates and instrumental in starting the Republican Women’s Committee in Savannah. Among her hobbies were gardening whereby she transformed the back yard of her home on Branywine into a veritable garden of camellias and azaleas; and cooking, a skill wherein she mixed the best of her southern upbringing and French-Italian heritage to produce Christmas Eve meals which included antipasto appetizers, fried chicken and bouillabaisse stew over linguine. The most important thing in Yvonne’s life was her family. To that end, she was the DeNitto family historian and maintained contact with both French and Italian cousins in the “old country” whom she loved dearly. She and her husband, Harold , traveled throughout Europe on several trips visiting family and the places where her mother and father were bornChemaze, France and Gaeta, Italy, respectively.They also took a cross-country tour of the United States with French cousins, Paul and Ginette Saturnino.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Bandy husband, Martin and Joanne Jenkins husband, Joseph Dahm ; grandchildren, Mark Bandy, Marie Wallhusband, Mike, Michael Bandy, Jennifer Dahm Quinnhusband, Greg and Rebecca Dahm Nostrand husband, Peter ;great-grandchildren Sophia and Camille Wall; nieces Patty Hildreth husband, Jim , Donna Burnshusband, Mark , and Joan Roberts husband, Dave ;and nephews Bernard DeNitto wife, Sue and S. John DeNitto.


Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia , with a 7:00 pm Rosary Service.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 12 noon at St. James Catholic Church.
Interment to follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

The Family request, in lieu of flowers, that donations be sent to St. Vincent’s Academy, 207 E. Liberty St., Savannah., Georgia 31401 and Hospice of Savannah, P. O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
