Celebrating the life of

George William Tryan

February 07, 1915 - June 25, 2007

George William Tryan

George W. Tryan, 92, was born in Thomasville, GA, the eldest of 11 children. He lived in Savannah, GA, for over 73 years. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and helped to rebuild Fort Pulaski. He also served in the armed forces during WWII and took part of the invasion of Normandy. He was employed with Savannah Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 39 years. He and his deceased wife of 62 years, Elsie Hinely Tryan, owned and ran a sandwich shop for a number of years. He served as an usher and was a Deacon Emeritus at Calvary in Savannah.

In his spare time he loved to garden and volunteered many hours to the beautification of his church and elderly friends’ gardens. He loved his church family and never met a stranger.

During his retirement he became known as “The Flower Man”. Every chance he got, he would cut flowers from his garden and carry pins in his pocket and proudly present them to ladies and men at church, including the pastor. He passed out flowers at the doctor’s office, at the grocery store, at restaurants and at the bank. At times people wearing a flower from “The Flower Man” would be recognized by someone whom they had never met and would say “oh you must know Mr. George”. It brought great pleasure to give his flowers, his time and his talents.

George was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He touched the lives of the young and old alike and let his faith and love of God be known to all.

Mr. Tryan is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Diane T. Williams of Savannah, GA and Pamela C. Tryan of Greenville, SC; his dear friend and companion, Fran Robbins of Savannah, GA; his sisters, Mrs. Mildred Anderson, Mrs. Evelyn Brazewell and Mrs. Doris Cassidy; his granddaughter, Mrs. Dawn Galloway of Troy, AL; and two great grandchildren, Mark Strode and Dade Galloway.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 26, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Calvary in Savannah with Reverend Wayne Watts officiating.

Burial will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Remembrances may be made to Calvary in Savannah 4625 Waters Avenue Savannah, GA 31405.
