Donice Devida McNamara "Mickey"

Donice Devida McNamara

Mickey McNamara, 89, passed away peacefully, October 10th, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Benndale, Ms., to Eula and Print Mixon, she was the youngest of nine children. Mickey attended Brooms Elementary School, and then Perkinston Boarding School in Ms. and later attended nursing school at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. where she met her future husband, Jack, the love of her life for over fifty years.

After living in Colorado and Florida, their travels led them back to Savannah, where she was a mother and a homemaker.

After raising five children, she began her second career first with Convention Consultants, and then as administrator of Mercy Convent until she retired in 1999.

Mickey was predeceased by her husband, John O. McNamara, Jr.

Mickey is survived by her two daughters: Melanie McNamara Howe (Andy) of Windsor, England and Kathleen Yeckley (Ken) of Savannah; three sons, Michael Carroll McNamara (Gina) of Savannah, and John Patrick McNamara (Cathy), and John O. McNamara, III (Deidra), both of Illinois; her older sister, LaVaughn Mixon Steiner of Fairhope, Ala.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Savannah for the compassionate and exceptional care given to Mickey during her final days.

A visitation will held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel.

A private Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Jason P.  Adams celebrating. A private burial in be held in the Catholic Cemetery.
