Savannah - Kay Godsey Franklin, widow of the late Colonel Edgar B. Franklin, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at her home.
A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, she moved to Savannah in 1966. She was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church.
Mrs. Franklin was active in the community and an avid gardener, winning many of the National Garden Club’s Top Awards and blue ribbons. She was Past President of the Savannah Kennel Club, Hibiscus Garden Club, East Georgia Council of Accredited Flower Show Judges, and the Garden Club Council of Chatham County. She was a Master Flower Show Judge and a Master Landscape Design Consultant.
She loved animals and served on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Chatham-Savannah for a number of years.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Julia Franklin Umberger and her husband, Kyle Umberger, of Roanoke, Virginia, and their children; and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2007, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
She will be interred on July 18, 2007 with her late husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Remembrances may be made to the Human Society of Chatham-savannah, 7215 Sally Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406 or Stroke Survivors of Savannah.
