Celebrating the life of

Joseph (Joe) James Wilderman

Passed away on December 03, 2019

Joseph (Joe) James Wilderman

Joseph (Joe) James Wilderman, 60, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Joe was retired from the City of Savannah, Maintenance Department, in which he dedicated well over 32 years of service to the City.  Joe also served in the United States Army and was stationed at Hunter Army Air Field and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent from the 110th Quarter Master in 1981.

Joe was a native of Southern Illinois, a town called New Athens, in which he was born to Kelly and Marie Wilderman on October 20, 1959. Joe came from a large Catholic family. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Tom, Bob, Jimmy and Judith (Judy or Hoot). He also was preceded in death by a long-term companion, Cheryl Wilderman, years ago. He leaves behind the light of his life, his most prized possession, his son, Jared Alan Wilderman. He had many siblings that he also leaves behind, Bill Wilderman, Peggy Emery, Trudy Howard, Debby Politsch, Tim Wilderman, and a host of nieces, nephews, along with great nieces, nephews, too numerous to name.

Joe was a dedicated hard-working man. He was an advocate and supporter of his local and Illinois Fire Department teams along with an avid interest in the local support of the “Blue Line” Law enforcement officers, both in Georgia and in Illinois. Joe came from a long line of hard-working men, to include those who worked for Peabody Coal, both hauling coal and mining in the foothills of Illinois. Joe’s father was a long-haul truck driver and many of the men in his family followed suit and pursued careers in over the road truck driving lifestyles.

Joe was a sports nut. Of course, he was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan, in which he often bragged about almost every World Series in the past few years, The St. Louis Blues hockey team and also, he may have been seen occasionally wearing a Georgia Bull Dog Jersey. In his later years, Joe involved himself in finding unique items of interest and giving to others. He had a heart of gold, was descended from the Dutch heritage with a twist of Irish spunk.

Joe will be missed by all, leaving behind a legacy of good will and faith to others, as well as many people who lives he has touched. Due to the incredible amount of family, this writer asks kindly for forgiveness if anyone was omitted from this remembrance. The family wishes to celebrate Joe’s life and accomplishments, as well as his “family first” tradition.

Please join the family in a celebration of life and new beginnings while we cherish our precious memories of our beloved “Uncle Joe”. The Memorial Service and Visitation will be at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA, 31406, from 2-4 on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Flowers are appreciated, but please remember to support your local Fire Departments and Law Enforcement Officers in Joe Wilderman’s memory.
