Amanda Fickett was born February 15, 1911 in Wilcox, Nebraska and passed away at the age of 96 on July 5, 2007 in her residence at Savannah Square in Savannah, Georgia.
The daughter of Henry and Sophia Schielke, she graduated from Lincoln General School of Nursing in 1933 with a R.N. degree. In 1941, she was an Army Nurse stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where she met and married her husband Richard N. Fickett, III. They moved to Athens, Georgia in 1946, where she lived until the death of her husband of 56 years in 1998. While in Athens, she was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be remembered for her warm greetings, kindness and a giving heart.
Survivors include her son, John T. Fickett and his wife Janice, of Savannah, Georigia and her two grandchildren, Bradley Fickett and his wife Kathryn of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Ann Marie Bishop and her husband Mason Bishop of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ester McRoberts, Laura Hubert, Olinda Meyer, Theona Diers, and is survived by her sister Gertrude Johnson of Franklin, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens, Georgia conducted by The Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Artelt. Preceding the service, the family will have visitation at 1:00 p.m. and a reception will follow the service.
