Celebrating the life of
George Enslen Patterson, III
December 12, 1953 - September 29, 2018
SAVANNAH — George Enslen Patterson, III, 64, a lifelong resident of Savannah and coastal Georgia, died on September 29, 2018 at Memorial Health University Medical Center of liver failure. George's parents, George Enslen Patterson, Jr. and Susan McCall Patterson, and his longtime companion, Jamie Annette Jobe, predeceased him. He is survived by a brother, Sherrod G. Patterson, of Decatur and a sister, Mary Howard Patterson Hatcher, and a niece, Susan McCall Hatcher, both of Marietta.
George was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on December 12, 1953. After he and his family moved to Savannah in 1960, he attended the Savannah Country Day School and graduated high school from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia in 1972. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia College in Milledgeville in 1976.
During much of high-school, George played competitive tennis and won several amateur championships in Georgia and surrounding states. He was also an avid rock 'n' roll drummer, having received a set of Ludwig drums for Christmas, and George, along with Country Day classmates Pearce Reeve and Jon Sprague formed and played in a teenage rock band they named "George and the Industrialists." For about a year the group played songs of The Beatles and other British Invasion groups at local parties and social events.
During summers away from college, George worked as a tennis professional at the Palmetto Dunes Resort on Hilton Head Island before embarking on a long career in coastal Georgia in the insurance and marine-services industries. After George obtained his "Six-Pack" Captain's license from the U.S. Coast Guard, he owned and operated a deep-sea fishing boat during the 1990s.
George was a lifetime member of Saint John's Church in Savannah.
A family memorial service will be held at Saint Barnabas Anglican Church in Dunwoody, Georgia at a later date.
George's family extends a heartfelt thanks to the Jobe family and his many friends and coworkers who helped George through and during his recent and difficult years of declining health.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George's memory to Saint John's Church in Savannah, the Humane Society of Greater Savannah, or a charity of choice.
I knew George in high school and while he was at Darlington. We would meet up at Holiday breaks and would have the best time!! I'm so sorry to hear of his passing away- far too young . Blessings and prayers to his family and close friends . Joanie

So sorry to hear of George's passing. I was "dorm dirt" with George at Darlington. We had many great times while getting that education. I was glad to see him at a recent class reunion. It was great catching up and reliving old stories. I am sorry we will not be able to see him at another class reunion but he is in a better place.

My sincere condolences to the family, please read Isaiah chapter 25 verse 8. That scripture is so comforting because it talks about death soon being done away with for good an at the end of that scripture we know it will happen because our heavenly Father has said it will happen.
