Mary Anne Gillikin, 97, died Monday, August 20, 2007 at Azalealand Nursing Home under the care of Hospice.
She was a born in Norfolk, Virginia, November 8, 1909. Was married October 12, 1929 in North Carolina, living there for several years before moving to Savannah in 1939 where she lived on Wilmington Island for 66 years. She was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Burford and John Franklin Barrett of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Clemmie Gray Gillikin.
Mary was a kind and loving mother to her 8 children, Mary Gray Klees, Clemmie W. Gillikin, Roy C. Gillikin, Everette L. Gillikin, Joann Hinton, Jerry Jones, Geneva Poplin and Betty Wiggins.
She was the oldest charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She sang in the choir for many years and worked many jobs in the church. She made sure her children went to church and knew the Lord. Mary loved church music and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed sharing cuttings with her friends and was always thankful to those who showed any act of kindness.
In addition to her children, she is survived by 27 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at the Islands Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2007 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park.
