SAVANNAH - Cornelia Morris Haile, age 78, died Friday, August 24, 2007, at Hospice House. Born December 17, 1928 in Telfair Hospital, the lifelong Savannah resident was the daughter of the late Romeo Basil Morris and Elmer Bernice Hart.
Employed by Haile Company, wholesale distributors, from 1975 until 1990, she was Vice-President and Corporate Secretary, Accounting Supervisor and Payroll Coordinator.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving on the Prayer Chain Committee since 1984. She had been Chairman of the Prayer Chain Committee and Co-Chairman of the Savannah Tour of Homes, as well as being chairman of various Tour Committees over the years.
Mrs. Haile was a past President of the Children’s Theatre, and served on the Boards of the former Savannah Nursery School, the Florence Crittenton Home and the Bethesda-Savannah Advisory Board.
For over twenty years she was a member of the Junior League of Savannah, Inc., serving as Treasurer and Chairman of numerous committees.
An active member of several conservative Republican organizations, she was a delegate to many County, District and State Conventions.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Haile Thompson and husband Walter of Savannah, Virginia Haile Ketron and husband Terry of Yuma, AZ, John Clifford Haile and wife Deborah of Savannah and George Melton Haile III and wife Barbara of Easley, South Carolina; her brother, Archibald Lovett Morris and wife Elizabeth Carswell Morris of Savannah; a brother-in-law, James Chestnut Haile and wife Evelyn; eleven grandchildren, Lydia Ketron, Dawn Downs, Jason Oldfield, Jeremy Haile, Adam Haile, Eric Haile, Chris Haile, Bethany Haile, David Mixon, Robert Mixon and Cindy Mixon; ten great-grandchildren; three nieces, Elizabeth Morris Kingston and husband Jack, Rebecca Morris Hadwin and husband Ardie and Bernice Morris Watson and husband Ben; three nephews, Jessie Haile and wife Jeanne, Alexander Haile and wife Stephanie and McKinney Haile; and several great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family suggests that remembrances may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 18 Abercorn St., Savannah, Georgia 31401, the Nancy N. and J. C. Lewis Cancer Research Pavilion, 225 Candler Drive, Savannah, GA 31405, or Happy Hooves, 4700 Dacusville Highway, Marietta, SC 29661, a non-profit, organization for disabled children that ministers to Cornelia’s grandchild.
