Grace “Terry” Beattie died Monday evening, September 17, 2007 in Savannah, Georgia after a long illness.
Mrs. Beattie was born in 1919 in Long Island, New York, the daughter of Anthony and Grace Buckner. She spent much of her younger years in battle Creek, Michigan, later returning to Long Island. Mrs. Beattie was a graduate of Pratt Institute in New York City as a commercial artist. She specialized in fashion illustration, working for many of the more prestigious new York City outlets. Following WWII she married Al Moffatt, settled in Darien, Connecticut and had two sons, Peter and Kevin. Her husband died years later in 1959. Mrs. Beattie continued her career and the raising of her sons. She later became an art instructor at the Famous Artist School, Westport, CT. Also, she did art instruction at the Darien High School, Darien, CT. Mrs. Beattie later re-married to Edward L. Beattie, and they continued to reside in the Darien home. On his retirement they moved to Cape Cod while still maintaining the Darien family home. When Mr. Beattie became ill with heart problems, they moved to The Landings in Savannah, GA. There they resided quite comfortably until Mr. Beattie’s death some years later. Mrs. Beattie is survived by two sons, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Beattie specifically requested no memorial service be held but that she be interred at Beaufort National Cemetery, next to her husband Edward. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
