Charles Robert Treadgold

Charles Robert Treadgold, age 79 beloved husband of Evelyn Nelson Treadgold died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 30, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana. He moved to Charleston, W. Virginia as a child and considered that area his home. He graduated in 1949 from Washington and Lee University with a BS in business administration. Charles remained active for the school serving as a class agent for the alumni fund.

Drafted at the start of the Korean War, he served in the US Army for 2 years in a research and development unit and was honorably discharged in October of 1952.

He started in the property and casualty business working for several companies to include Safeco, Nationwide and Aetna. He had diverse positions such as state agent, agent training manager and vice president for the agency department. In 1975 he founded and launched his own general insurance agency in Albany, NY, Hamlin Robert and Ridgeway Ltd.

He retired in 1991, moved to Savannah and lived at the Landings on Skidaway Island. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Kiwanis Club, and the Landings Club. He was active in prison ministry, enjoyed golf and tennis and was an avid bridge player in between writing letters to the Editor. Charles and his wife traveled to many parts of the world, but he mostly enjoyed the company of good friends.

He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Nelson Treadgold; three sons, Charles R. Treadgold and his wife, Debra, John N. Treadgold and his wife Cathie, and Anthony G. Treadgold and his wife Karen; 8 grandchildren whom he enjoyed immensely, Matthew, Melissa, Taylor, Evan, Quinn, John, Katie and Luke and his sister, Elodie T. Morrison of Indianola, Iowa.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. George Negrea and the staff of the Nancy L. & J.C. Lewis Cancer Center.

Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2007 at St. Peters Episcopal Church.
