Grace Counts Sowell

Savannah - Grace Counts Sowell, 76, died September 21, 2007 at her residence under the care of Hospice Savannah, Inc. Grace was born in Brunswick, Georgia and moved to Savannah in 1952. She was a graduate of Glynn Academy High School, Warren A. Candler Nursing School, and Armstrong State College. Grace was a registered nurse and was employed as O.R. Supervisor for 18 years. She led the nursing team in assisting with Savannah’s first heart surgery. Later, she worked in the Nurse Education Department as orientation coordinator and tuition reimbursement director. She retired from Memorial after 29 years of employment. Grace was a member of the Amdoe Auxiliary, German Country Club, charter member of the Savannah A.O.R.N and a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charles H. Sowell, Sr. of Savannah; daughter, Ginny Tullis W.O. Tullis of Blairsville; daughter, Beth Conaway Kerry W. Conaway of Savannah;
son, Charles H. “Chuck” Sowell, Jr. Frankie Sowell of Savannah; seven grandchildren, one great grandson; sister, Judy Dent and a brother, George Counts of Brunswick and several nieces, nephews and longtime caregiver and companion, Sandra Johnson of Savannah.

Visitation: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007 at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church.

Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
