GUEST BOOK

I was a student of Father Fitz's at Aquinas High School from 1976-1980. I am so sorry to hear of his recent death. There are very few people who have an impact on others and Father Fitz was definitely a very special person. I will never forget how he challenged me to become a better student and better person. I am honored to make a charitable contribution to the Priests' Retirement fund in his name. God Bless him always! Love, Cindy Price Anfindsen, Aquinas class of 1980

- Cindy Price Anfindsen, Apex, NC

Father Fitz--you taught us well, you kept us on the right path thru the CYO, you made us laugh and brought out the best in us. You were quite special. You will be missed. FiFi Sheridan

- FiFi Sheridan, Greenwich, CT

Thank you for giving your life to the Church and to all of us. You did a good job!

- Susan Crawford, Atlanta, GA

Father Fitz was a great inspiration to me. I met him while I attended MDS. I also belong to the first coed class of '63. I was in his Religion class. I will never forget talking to a classmate right after class started and there went this eraser flying over our heads, what an aim! His look was enough to make us not repeat ever again this action. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

- Sofia Gallardo Hornung, Gloucester, VA

We will miss Fr. Fitzpatrick and humbly thank him for my last two years at MDS. He did put much effort in keeping us 16-18 year olds in line and gave us much needed direction/guidance. God bless him, MDS '64 Anthony Faiia

- Anthony R. Faiia, Atlanta, GA

My condolences to the family of Fr. Fitzpatrick. Fr. Fitz was a wonderful man. I knew him both from Camp Villa Marie and his teaching at Mount de Sales in Macon. I'm pretty sure he sent me to detention once from religion class! I have no idea what I could have done to deserve that! We were hard on him during that first year he was there but he was a champ about it! May he rest in peace. Katy Sheridan

- Katy Sheridan, Albuquerque, NM

What great memories I have of 'Fr. Fitz'. He came to Mt. deSales my freshman year not long out of seminary. He had dark hair. Four years later he left with snow white hair. Lordy, what trouble we were to him! But he never gave up on us. The angels will sing in such harmony with Fr. Fitz there. I can still remember getting chills when the St. Joseph Boys Choir in Macon, under his direction, would sing Panis Angelicus. My condolences to his family and his many friends. We are all better people for having known him. Nancy Welch MDS '64

- Nancy Jenkins Welch, Highlands, NC

Fr. Fitzpatrick was at MDS while I was there. Our class was the first co-ed class at Mt. de Sales. I have a picture of Fr. Fitzpatrick on the day of our class ring ceremony with some of the students. My thoughts n prayers are with his family. He was very much admired by MDS.

- Genevieve McKinney, Brunswick, GA

Fr. Fitz was a major influence in my young life at St. John Vianney Minor Seminary. I only attended there two years and he will always be remembered. Later at Aquinas in Augusta, he was Principal during my daughters freshman year. He pulled Clarence Thomas from Washinmgton to speak at the graduation at Aquinas in 1997. He was a great man who had many medical problems and never complained. I will always remember him.

- Bill Barrett, Augusta, GA

Father Fitz was an extraordinary teacher! I wasn't in Drama, but Choral, and we sang for all of his plays. He was so articulate and humorous. He was of my favorite teachers...one of those I'll never forget. Prayers and blessings to the Fitzpatrick Family.

- Donna Hutchinson, San Antonio, TX

My heartfelt condolences to you. While he was at St. John Vianney, Fr. Fitz had a tremendous influence on my life, both then and later. I will always remember the plays and the Scola Cantorum! His patience with us then was unbelievable; he was truly a saintly man. Scotty - SJVMS '67

For you, Fr. Fitz: Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there... I do not sleep. I am the thousand winds that blow... I am the diamond glints on snow... I am the sunlight on ripened grain... I am the gentle autumn rain. When you waken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of gentle birds in circling flight... I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry— I am not there... I did not die... From an old Irish Blessing Pat Stuckart St. John's Seminary '66

- Patrick Stuckart, Ladson, SC

Padre, Thank you and as is the case so many times with people is my life I did not get to say it to you when I saw you. Brodie

- Jim, , NY

Father Fitz was a great and inspiring colleague when I taught at Aquinas. His living memorials are the hundreds and hundreds of students he taught, prayed for and loved dearly. When people draw up their lists of the first persons they want to say 'Hi' to when they get to heaven, Father Fitz will be on a lot of lists along with Tommy Werrick, Brother James....

- William E. Wilkin, Ashburn, VA

My prayers and gratitude to one who was instrumental in my early formation for prieasthood. Fr. Fitzpatrick's devotion to those of us who attended St. John Vianney Minor Seminary will not be forgotten. Frank, class of 1966.

- Fr. Frank Candalisa, Metairie, LA

I didn't know Father Fitz long but he definitely confirmed that I had a tin ear, at least for classical music. He also taught me how to apply makeup, thankfully on other people for plays. He was a good, kind man whom I admired. I am a '65 graduate of St. John's. Jim Overstreet

- Jim Overstreet, Atlanta, GA

Father Fitzpatrick's love of theatre and music was so evident in the energy and enthusiasm that he brought to the productions at St. John Seminary. With a bare-bones facility, a limited rehearsal schedule and a guys-only school, he put together some amazing productions. He showed that creativity and imagination can overcome any obstacle. He also gave us students a welcome relief from a very demanding routine. Personally, his inspiration was the source of a lifetime of theatrical activity.

- Steve Seyfried '67, Oreland, PA

A wonderful teacher !

- Jonathan Von Plinsky, Augusta, GA

Father Fitzpatrick was a gifted choir director, organist, theatrical artist, teacher and Priest. His legacy is the joy he left us especially with the music he taught us.

- Don Williams, Macon, GA

Father Fitzpatrick was director of Camp Villa Marie during the mid-sixties when I worked there. We always looked forward to the midnight trip to town to meet the Nancy Hanks from Atlanta which bought us campers and was NEVER on time. I was the bus driver and Savannah was burning because of riots. We had to go through that section to get to the train station. As we started out from Villa Marie, I heard something clanging on the metal panel between the steps and the first seat.It was the crucifix on Father's rosary hitting against the panel. We all said the rosary and drove on with confidence and trust. Thank you, Father Fitz for your committed service to the people of God and to my alma mater, Aquinas.

- Patrick Mahon, Young Harris, GA

Father Fitzpatrick taught me while I attended St. John Vianney Minor Seminary from 1962 to 1966. His sensitivity not only at music but also color translated well in his efforts to teach a bunch of young boys from Georgia culture. Not only we were we exposed to Gregorian chant, but he showed us the theater and its many facets. I learned many things about sets, makeup, costumes and how to act. But the greatest lesson he taught me was through his determination that we were going to do our best and that if you did not try to do your best you were letting yourself down. He, along with all of the priests at St. John Vianney Minor Seminary, helped me learn the values that have carried me through my life. Now if the heavenly choir will just settle down he will play the first note on the organ and begin their training. Thank you for who you were Father Fitz. Charles L. Pourciau, Jr. Class 1966 SJVS

- Charles L. Pourciau, Jr., Lititz, PA

I first met Father Fitzpatrick when I started Aquinas in 1982. He taught me freshman religion and Latin I. I knew him to have a great sense of humor and could always come up with a witty comment in a variety of situations. I last seen Father at St. Michael's just before he left. He will be greatly missed. Requiescat in pace.

- Nick Sexton, Augusta, GA

Father Fitzpatrick was my boss at Aquinas High School. It was my favorite job, so far, in my career. He provided me with many examples of Christian leadership to emulate. He became a great friend over the years and I will miss him terribly. My sincere condolences to his family. He talked about you with love and joy and I know you will miss him. God Bless you. God Bless Father Fitz!

- Janet Fain Morgan, Columbus, GA

Ever since 1961, from grade school through minor seminary, Fr. Fitzpatrick was a shining star of culture and music in my life. He shared culture through plays and music to many young people who would never have experienced these glorious arts, at such a young age, without Fr. Fitz's influence. God bless you, Fr. Fitz, for the joy,the artistic culture, the humor, and the personalism you shared with so many.

- Carl Williams, Fayetteville, GA

Even though it has been almost 30 years since I graduated from Aquinas, I will always remember Father Fitz quite fondly. He was in inspiration to me and many of my classmates. Who can forget Father Fitz wanting to scrap the fall drama production because we weren't quite up to his expectations? He would tell us we needed to cancel the play, and we would all say 'No! We'll work harder, we want to put on this play!!' And we rehearsed and rehearsed until he thought we were ready. I'm sure Father Fitz influenced many Aquinas graduates to appreciate the hard work that goes into a drama production. Rest in peace!

Our son Tom attended Aquinas High School in Augusta from 1992 through 1995. Father Fitz was a great inspiration to him and to us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Father Fitzpatrick was my principal at Aquinas my freshmen year '93-94 and I knew he was an important role to make what Aquinas is today. He will be missed, especially on the senior trips to Disney World. May God bless your family with peace and love.
