DEWEY ALLEN DOSS, SR

Dewey Allen Doss, Sr.., 87 of Savannah went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Hospice Savannah. He was born in Soperton, Georgia, on January 20, 1920. He served in the United States Army from 1938 to 1945. On September 16, 1940, some 700 young men the from Savannah area with the Georgia National Guard, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, were mobilized. Dewey was one of less than twelve remaining members. He served in the 66th Infantry Panther Division and received several awards. He was past president of the Savannah Volunteer Guards and a member of St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church where he served a number of years on the vestry. Dewey was retired from the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Real Estate.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde O, Doss and Lillie Mae Cauley Doss and a brother, Earl L. Doss.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Sandlin Doss, a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Doss Morris and Richard Morris, a son, Dewey Allen Doss, Jr., all of Savannah, and a step-daughter, Sandy Smith Bravo of Austin, Texas. Grandchildren are Charles Richard Morris, Jr., Thomas Cameron and Melissa Jenkins, Jeffrey Brian Morris all of Savannah, Jill Jenkins Gentz of Austin, Texas, Justin Dewey Doss of Charleston, South Carolina, and Patrick Allen Doss of Valdosta, Georgia. He has two great grandsons, Grayson Andrew Gentz and Trenton Cameron Jenkins, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Active Pallbearers will be Dewey’s grandsons, and his nephew, Bill Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Murray Barnard and Tim Sandlin.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 1 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church with The Reverend Scotty Brock officiating with burial in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
