Betty Jo Hendry Kahrs, 77, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 in Savannah.

Mrs. Kahrs was born on August 23, 1930 in Hinesville, GA, the daughter of the late F.W. and Gladys Hendry. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph's Nursing School, afterward becoming one of the first nurses to work at Memorial Hospital when it opened. She later worked as a nurse at Georgia Regional, Jenkins High School and ultimately Azalealand Nursing Home. Betty enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Kahrs is survived by her husband of 56 years, James W. Kahrs, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and Chuck Sowell of Savannah; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathy Kahrs of Jacksonville, FL; and five grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A visitation will be held at 2:00-3:00 PM Friday at Carter Funeral Home, 308 W. Oglethorpe Blvd, Hinesville, GA 31313 with burial following at Hinesville Cemetery.
