Celebrating the life of

Montgomery Brown "Monty" Walker

Passed away on December 05, 2019

Montgomery Brown

Montgomery Brown Walker

MAVERICK, noun: an individual who is unconventional and independent, thinks and acts in his own way.   Monty Walker was such a man, a maverick.   Intelligent, strong, witty, fiercely independent, proud, loving, dedicated, and (yes, we know) stubborn – these were the characteristics of Monty’s life. Starting from a youth, Monty marched to his own drum and went his own way. Along the way, he touched many lives and brought great joy.   Monty loved people, dogs, and being on the water.   After graduating from Johnson High School, Monty started his lifelong business in marine construction. The quality and care of his work was evident with the docks he built being of the few standing after numerous hurricanes. Monty was a searcher – he found God and his lifelong dedication to God and the study of God’s Word became his passion.   Monty lived to share the greatness and blessings of being a child of God and his ministry illuminated the lives of many – he brought great light to this dark world. He put his faith to the test on many occasions, one of which was hitchhiking across half of the United States sharing God’s love along the way and believing God would take care of him.   He did ... and Monty saw first-hand the faithfulness of God. Monty would quickly tell you, though, his greatest accomplishment and joy was having his beloved daughter, Christena Lane Walker Furey.  Lane was the love of his life and bore him two of the greatest gifts: James Walker Furey and June Margaret Furey.   Monty became ill but mustered the strength to see his new granddaughter just before he fell asleep and now Monty is patiently waiting to hear the trumpet of his beloved Lord. Montgomery Brown Walker passed on December 5th at his home.

Monty is survived by: Christena Lane Furey (daughter) and her husband Geoff, his loving Mother Mildred Brown Walker, Lake Walker Daly (sister) and her husband (Jim), grandchildren James and June, and his beloved dog, Hampton.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Service will be private.

I am so sorry to hear of Monty’s passing. I remember him as an active 5-8 ( may not be correct) year old when I was the babysitter for he and Lake when they lived in Magnolia Park. My heart goes out to his Mother and sister and the others who loved him.

Dear Walker/Daily Family: I was very sad to hear of Monty’s passing today. I remember Monty in high school as a madras-clad smart, charming, funny, kind and good looking guy with always a twinkle in his eye. Not only liked by his peers, but the teachers as well. Monty handled himself with a lovely, smooth confidence. I am sure these characteristics lead him into a full life as adult. I know he will he missed by his family and many friends. I especially pray for Mildred and hope she finds the comfort she needs during this time. God Bless you all. Cindy Conner

I can say Monty was my best friend. Even though our lives took us in different directions and we only saw each other or spoke occasionally, it was like we never skipped a beat. A phone conversation was never short with Monty. An effortless hour would go by in the blink of an eye because we had so many shared experiences. I will miss his friendship. Monty was an unwavering Christian and is now at peace. My thoughts and prayers are with the Walker family.

Mrs Walker, Lane, Lake and family, Words can’t express how sorry we are for your loss. Monty was a huge part of our life from childhood. He was Chuck’s best friend forever and we will all miss him very much. But we are sure of this, Monty is with Christ. He loved the Lord so much and has studied His Word for as long as we can remember. It must give you and your family great comfort to know that right now he is in the arms of Jesus.
