EMMA DRIGGERS FUTRELL
Emma Driggers Futrell 81, died Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Candler Hospital. Mrs. Futrell was a native and longtime resident of Savannah. She began playing the organ for Calvary Baptist Church at the age of sixteen and continued to play for several different churches before retiring in October of 2006 from Isle of Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Emma taught piano in Savannah for over 50 years and was the organist for Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors for many years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organist, the Georgia Music Teachers Association, the Eastern Star, Isle of Hope Baptist Church, the Savannah Exchangettes, and played the piano for the weekly meeting for the Exchange Club of Savannah.
Mrs. Futrell was preceded in death by her husband, Ira D. Futrell.
Surviving are, her son, I. David Futrell Jr. and wife, Penny of Savannah, her daughter, Nanci E. Futrell of Savannah, her son, R. Glenn Futrell and wife Catherine of Savannah, her son, Stephen A. Futrell and wife Kim of North Carolina, her sisters, Elizabeth D. McElveen and Margaret D. Hayman both of Savannah, her grandchildren, Derrick, Kyle, Bryn, Benjamin, Madison and her great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Marshall. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Monday, January 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with Reverend Earnie Pirkle officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Hugh Futrell III, Lester Hayman Jr., Michael Hayman, John McElveen, Neal McElveen, George Pennington, Charles Bragg and Robert Oetgen.
Honorary Pallbearers will the Exchange Club of Savannah.
Remembrances to Hospice Savannah Inc., or the American Cancer Society.
