Jeanne Sears Backus – SAVANNAH – Jeanne Backus, 63, passed away suddenly on January 18, 2008, in Savannah. The daughter of the late Helen and Gene Sears, Jeanne was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 16, 1945. She was a lover of the arts and a talented watercolor artist. Jeanne and her husband, Lin, were avid travelers and journeyed to many exciting places around the world. In December, they completed a transatlantic cruise to the Eastern Mediterranean. She loved gatherings with family and friends, her home on the water, being outdoors, and spending time with her two grandchildren. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Henry Lindsley “Lin” Backus, III; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Benson, and son-in-law, Teddy Hayes Benson; son, Henry Lindsley Backus, IV; brother, Jay Sears, and sister-in law, Kim Sears; sister-in-law, Deborah Durham; and grandsons, Brendan and Daniel Benson. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, on Monday, January 21, 2008, in Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
