Celebrating the life of
Lorene Turner
January 09, 1920 - February 05, 2008
Lorene Dasher Turner, 88, departed this life February 5, 2008, to join her husband in the presence of God.
She was born in Effingham County, Georgia, January 9, 1920, to Ellis Austin Dasher, Sr., and Martha Hinely Dasher. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 66 years, Clifford W. Turner; and her twin brother, Lowell Benjamin Dasher.
Survivors include daughter Martha Lynn Manrique, grandson Francisco Lee Manrique known as "Fran" and his wife Robin; grandson Derrick Steven Manrique; granddaughter Chrissy Vanessa Perez and her husband Jose Alfredo Perez, Jr.; granddaughter Milena Lynn Manrique; great granddaughter Cassandra Shea Manrique known as "Cassie", great grandson Jose Alfredo Perez, III known as "Joey"; sister Camilla Dasher Battu; and brother Ellis Austin Dasher, Jr.
A dedicated, life-long Christian, she was a charter member of Central Church of Christ, a congregation that began with 32 members and held its first service in the Turner's livingroom.
Her life centered around her church, her husband, her family, and her friends. Many mothers and grandmothers in her church family refer to her as their second mother and mentor who was there with guidance and support when they were learning to cope as young wives and mothers. The Turner's home was a warm haven of hospitality, especially for young married couples and members of the military, many of whom were hundreds of miles from home and family for the first time. In her declining years, the members of her church family, kind neighbors, and close friends were always there for her as she had been for them, helping in her care and ensuring that her needs were met. Her family will always be thankful to God for these good and faithful friends.
During her last years and final illness, Lorene was blessed with competent and caring physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals. Her family and loved ones credit God and her medical team for her good health, long life, and peaceful death and thank them for their care.
Lorene Turner was outspoken, honest, and frugal. She loved children, shoes, oyster roasts, anything on sale, playing bridge with her friends, and Sunday supper at Barnes' with the after-church gang. She was courageous, strong-willed, and indomitable--a fighter who accepted every challenge and retired undefeated. She will be remembered for her strength of character and her unwavering commitment to God, family and friends.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2008, at Central Church of Christ, 632 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
Remembrances to Central Church of Christ.
