SAVANNAH - "Jim" Abernathy, 66, of Isle of Hope, died on Thursday, February 7, 2008.
Born in Savannah, he was a son of the late James Frank Abernathy, Jr. and Erleen Woods Abernathy.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ramsey Abernathy, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lisa Abernathy and granddaughter, Sarah Abernathy of Nashville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Amy Abernathy, and grandchildren, Reina Abernathy and Evan Abernathy of Smyrna, GA; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert Donald and Frances Abernathy, nephew, Josh Abernathy and niece, Samantha Abernathy.
Mr. Abernathy was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church. A 1959 graduate of Savannah High School, he was a member of the Blue and White Marching Band. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern with a degree in Business. He retired after a rewarding career with the Finance Department of Chatham County.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, February 8, 2008, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at Bull Street Baptist Church on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Abernathy, Russell Bragg, Andrew Ramsey, David Clements, Roland Lance, and Bill Saxman.
Burial will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bull Street Baptist Church, 17 East Anderson St., Savannah, GA 31401.
