Jacob Christian Kraft, Jr.

Jake Kraft of Lighthouse Point, Tybee Island, a very kind, giving and benevolent man passed from this life on March 4, 2008.

He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Jake was preceded in death by his wife Addie Haar Kraft and his parents Jacob Christian Kraft, Sr. and Stella Ubele Kraft.

He is survived by his sister Carlyn Killian of Charlotte, N.C., his brother Orion Kraft and his wife Faye Kraft of Savannah, and his brother George Kraft of Tybee Island. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who he treated as his own children.

Jake was employed by the U.S. Postal service for 30 years and was proud of being a letter carrier. During World War II, Jake served in the U.S. Navy. He took part in most of the major battles in the South Pacific Ocean, including Iwo Jima, Guata Canal, and Okinawa. Jake later re-enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Island Chapel with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. The presiding pastors will be Reverend Wayne Cobb of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Wilmington Island and Jake's nephew, Reverend Ralph Kraft of St. John's Lutheran Church of Asheboro, N.C.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Savannah and the Riverview Nursing Home for the care they have provided for Jake.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Savannah or Redeemer Lutheran Church, 51 Wilmington Island Road, Savannah, GA, 31410.
