Celebrating the life of

Jeanne Fraser Driscoll

March 24, 1925 - March 10, 2008

Jeanne Fraser Driscoll

Savannah-Jeanne Fraser Driscoll, 82, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Jeanne was born in Savannah, Georgia, on March 24, 1925. She was the daughter of Sidney Porter Driscoll and Louise Fulton Driscoll. Her grandparents were John Edward Driscoll, Susan Porter Driscoll, Joseph Fulton Capt., C.S.A., and Lela Fraser Fulton.

She graduated from Savannah High School, Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was chapter president of Tri Delta and a member of Valkyries.

Jeanne was among the first five women real estate agents in Savannah and followed this profession for fourteen years. After her real estate career ended, she worked thirteen years as a social worker for the Department of Family and Children's Services and was a supervisor of training for welfare recipients. During these times she served on various boards of directors, among them the Humane Society of Chatham County/Savannah for eight years and Hospice Savannah for three years.

Her long interest in art resulted in her being a self-taught enamellist and member of Gallery 209 in Savannah for twenty-five years. In 1974 she made and presented to St. Francis of the Islands an enamel and cypress procession cross that is still in use today. For Hospice Savannah she hand hammered the copper "tree of life" upon which hangs memorial leaves.

Jeanne will be remembered by many for her love of flowers, particularly camellias. Her great joy was to share blooms with friends, organizations, etc. An animal lover, Jeanne owned pug dogs in the past and most recently owned King Charles Cavalier Spaniels. Her brother S. Porter Driscoll, Jr., preceded her.

She is survived by her niece, Susan Driscoll Verell, and her husband Bill Verell of Atlanta, great niece Lisa Verell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and great nephew Ben Verell of Athens, Georgia.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Islands Chapel of Fox and weeks Funeral Directors.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church with burial to follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to Save-A-Life, Pet Assistance League, Chatham-Savannah Humane Society, Safe Shelter, Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
