Robert Harrison Nix

Venice, Florida-Robert Harrison Nix, 76, of Venice, FL, a resident of Marietta, GA before retiring to Venice in 1994, husband of Anne Thompson Nix, died Monday, March 17, 2008, after a long illness at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veteran's Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, FL.
Born August 14, 1931 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Lanice Eugene Nix and Mattie Pickard Nix. He attended College Park High School and graduated from Georgia State University, with a BBA degree in Risk Management. He served in the Georgia National Guard and the United States Navy with dignity and dedication. He retired as a senior underwriter after working for thirty-five years in the insurance industry; employed by American Agency Life Ins. Co. of Atlanta, Life and Casualty of Nashville, TN, and retiring from Sun Life of America in Atlanta.
Surviving are sons, Robert Steven Nix and his wife Kathy and Philip Harrison Nix, both of the Atlanta area; he is also survived by his step-daughters, Susan Snellings Ramsey and her husband Mike of Toccoa, GA, Julie Snellings Ridley and her husband John of Greenville, NC. He is also survived by seven "grandchildren", Christopher Goins and Justin Atkinson, who lovingly referred to him as "Papa Bob." Harrison, Susannah, and Patrick Ramsey, Rebekah and Jeannie Ridley who will forever know him as their "Godaddy."
Also surviving are five brothers, all of the Atlanta area, Lanice Eugene and his wife Marge, Neil Brian and his wife Jan, Clyde Allen, Richard Delano and his wife Hilda, Riley Whitcomb and his wife Annette. Two sisters, Madeline Lester and husband Larry of West Palm Beach, FL and Ann Smallwood of St. Simons Island, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service: 11:30 AM Friday, March 21, 2008 at Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by The Reverend John Nathaniel Ridley.
