John Charles Sheahan, Jr.

SAVANNAH – John Charles Jack Sheahan, Jr. died on Monday, March 24, 2008.

A native of Savannah, Jack was born at his family home on Montgomery Street on January 12, 1920. He was the son of John Jack and Rosella Walsh Sheahan.

Jack attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Benedictine Military School. He attended Armstrong State College and became a Certified Dental Technician. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific, where he received two Purple Heart Medals, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with four Bronze Stars.

He began his career as an owner and operator of a dental lab on Jones St. until 1955. He concluded his career in outdoor advertising as General Sales manager for Hogan/Estus Outdoor Advertising in 1987.

Jack was a member of the City Democratic Executive committee and the Recreation Commission during the McLean administration. He was a member of the Hibernian Society, the Exchange Club, the Savannah Yacht Club, the Chatham Artillery, and a past member of the Savannah Jaycees, the Savannah Golf Club, and the Elks Club. He served as an usher at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist for many years.

He was a devoted husband, Father, and Grandfather. Jack Sheahan is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Billie Sue Munden Sheahan; his son John Pride Sheahan and daughter-in-law Linda Powell Sheahan; son William Robert Sheahan and daughter-in-law Trisha Snowden Sheahan; grandchildren John Powell Sheahan and Adell Cephise Sheahan.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Rosary service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Greenwich Cemetery.
