Colonel Joe B. Hughes, USAF, Ret.

On Wednesday, 23 April 2008, at 0730 hours, another member of America's greatest generation passed away, Colonel Joe B. Hughes, United States Air Force retired. Col. Hughes had 30 years of a distinguished military career serving his country in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He died peacefully in his sleep leaving behind his wife, Mary Dale Arnold Hughes of Savannah; two sons: Jeffrey Donn Hughes of Madison, VA., and Christie Arnold Pappas and wife Samantha of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters: Vickie Pappas Krutzer and husband Bill of Monroe, LA., Dorris Pappas Bishop and husband Richard of Columbus, GA., Star Pappas Burnett and husband Bill of Rumson, NJ., and Page Pappas King and husband Brady of Monroe, LA.; thirteen grandchildren: Christina Hughes, Victoria Krutzer; Zach and Katie Bishop; Nicholas, Gabriella and Isabella Pappas; Kyle and Alex Burnett; and Connor, Ian, Cameron and Patrick King.
Graveside Services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
