Roger S. Seymour

Roger S. Seymour, 82, died April 25, 2008 at his residence. He was born in New York, NY, son of the late Edward Palmer and Alice Hovey Seymour. He graduated from Andover Academy, class of 1944, following which he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country until the end of World War II. He enrolled at Yale and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After a long career with IBM, he took early retirement and later moved to Savannah where he and his wife, Virginia, spent many years hosting family and friends by the marshes.

Throughout the 24 years spent in Savannah, he remained very active as class secretary for Andover; volunteering for the Red Cross, United Way and Hospice Savannah; and traveling extensively in the US and abroad. Following Virginia's death, he later married Marilyn Sagar, who predeceased Mr. Seymour. He participated in the life of the community and developed many new relationships. He is remembered as a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather, as well as a thoughtful and loyal friend.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Roger and Ruellene Seymour of Horseheads, NY, Hovey and Juliana Seymour of Bluffton, SC; daughter Alice Seymour Mayo of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren Taryn and Tyler Seymour, and Emeline Mayo

Burial will be in New Jersey at a later date. The family requests that any remembrances be sent to Hospice Savannah, Inc., PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31415, and that you please sign the online guest book at www.foxandweeks.com

My sympathies to all Roger's family. I meet Roger at Hospice. My wife Carolyn died suddenly last July 30th. Roger was a man of few words but we all listened when he did speak because we knew it would be profound.May God have mercy on his soul.

I was very happy to be part of my dear friend's B-day. I know he is now free of pain and suffering and still wearing his forever smile. He will be greatly missed. May God comfort his loving and caring family.

- Lee Marmaras, Sav, GA

Roger was a dear old friend of ours. He was in our wedding 55 years ago. He met and married his wife here in Wellsburg, WV. We visited him and Virginia when they lived in Paris. We also had many visits with him in Savannah as our daughter lives there. We will miss him as our friend. We send our sympathy to his sons and also to his daughter Alice.
