Frederick Kriete Waters

Savannah-Frederick Kriete Waters, 85, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Savannah on February 27, 1923 and was preceded in death by his parents, Warnock H. and Mary M. Waters, and two brothers, Warnock H. Jr. and George Arthur Waters. His loving wife Flora Belle Lanigan Waters, preceded him in death in 1999, after 56 years of marriage.

Mr. Waters attended public schools in Savannah and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic Theater during World War II. He worked in the 1950's for eight years as deck hand, Engineer and Relief Captain for the Island Girl, a ferry on the Savannah River, until the service was terminated after the Talmadge Bridge was completed. He also served as a Watchman for Seaboard Railroad and Mechanic for Savannah Shipyard. In the 1960's Mr. Waters began working for American Cyanamid as a Shift Mechanic and retired after 24 years of service. Mr. Waters was a member of the American Legion and the International Assoc. of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union, Local Lodge 650.

His hobbies included auto mechanics, gardening, fishing, woodworking, drawing, painting and most importantly spending time with his family. He enjoyed numerous trips with his wife to the North Georgia and North Carolina mountains and family vacations to Tybee Island.

He was a former member of Waters Avenue Baptist Church where he was a song leader and deacon for many years. Presently he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was recently elected Vice-President of the Habersham House Residential Council.

Mr. Waters is survived by his daughters, Diane Fishback John of Richmond Hill, Freddie Bland Cameron-deceased of Savannah and Mary Ann Edens Larry of Athens; grandchildren, Hollie Lynn Feus Freddie of Richmond Hill, Paul Bland Paula of Savannah, Brian Bland Allison of Savannah, Shannon Clark Richard of Guyton, Shawn Dutcher Kathryn of Dawsonville; great grandchildren, Chase Feus, Casey Feus, Amber Clark, Cameron Bland, Alison Clark, Ethan Bland and Corbin Dutcher; godsons, Ernest Parker and Brian Parker; close friend, Betty Halligan and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Friday at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with his grandson, Rev. Shawn Dutcher, Area Director of Young Life, Dawson County, GA officiating.

Burial: Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Remembrances: Grace United Methodist Church, 6412 Waters Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406.
